At The Lab Hotel in Thun you can spend the night inside new ideas. The 3-star hotel is both a research laboratory and a school hotel: students try out new hotel concepts, and apprentices in hospitality and gastronomy can live here during their school phases. Guests enjoy the comfort and service of a 3-star hotel – and meet young people who are making hospitality their profession.

A hotel that loves to experiment

Hotel room, serviced apartment or capsule room: at The Lab Hotel, guests have the choice. Anyone who wants to discover something new while staying the night books one of the Lab Rooms. Here, students and industry partners put unusual room concepts into practice. Guests experience the ideas first-hand – by sleeping in them.

Since 2021 the 3-star hotel has followed an innovation and training concept that is unique in Switzerland. In close connection with the Hotelfachschule Thun, students put what they have learned into practice in everyday hotel life and develop new ideas. As a guest you are right in the middle of it: how much technology does a hotel room need? What makes a room cosy? And what matters in good service? What is developed here meets the wishes and experiences of the guests.

The next generation checks in

Students and apprentices are also part of everyday life at the hotel. As a school hotel, The Lab Hotel has offered apprentices in vocational training the opportunity to live on campus during their school phases since autumn 2026. This leads to encounters with young people who bring experience from their training companies and their own ideas of hospitality.

A stay with new insights

Holidaymakers and business travellers, students and apprentices share a piece of everyday life at The Lab Hotel. Guests meet young people who bring experience from their training companies and their own ideas of hospitality. In turn, the apprentices meet people for whom a hotel stay is a break, part of a business trip or a temporary home.

The Lab Hotel remains the most beautiful 3-star hotel in Thun and is now also a school hotel. Guests can discover special room concepts, enjoy Thun and the lake and get to know the people who will shape the industry in the future.
